The Squiggly Line

Tunneling into the sports vault, one remarkable story at a time.

The Squiggly Line is a podcast that explores the details and secrets from the forgotten stories of sports history.

The podcast was created and is written by Anders and Mats Engdahl, otherwise known as the Brothers Engdahl. The Squiggly Line is edited and produced by Mats Engdahl.

What the Hell Is Going On Here!

Even in the era of ESPN, team Snapchat accounts, citizen videography and real time video, we miss stuff. We miss nuances in the narratives. We miss the deeper connections between the players and coaches, the emotional beats that influence those people to lean into a mic and something brilliant or inane. We miss the egomania. We miss what happened before and what happened after. Even documentaries that go back and reexamine classic games and teams tend to gloss over the stranger and idiosyncratic tidbits.

But that's okay. That's why the Squiggly Line exists. We want to parse through Wikipedia pages, find all the primary sources, devour them and give you the juiciest bits. If a coach won a title by covering up multiple player crimes, we want to talk about that. The point-shaving scandals that people forget? We want to drag those stories back into the light. We want to celebrate those almost-title teams, those teams with more loose cannons than a rudderless battleship.

So what's going on here? A podcast for the sports history nerds, no hot takes needed. So stop by and listen as we tunnel into the sports vault, one remarkable story at a time. You'll be happy you did.
